What are Baby Aubergines?

Baby Aubergines are smaller forms of aubergine (Solanum melongena), with petite round to slightly elongated shapes, smooth skin and a distinctive green calyx. Their compact size is well suited to cooking whole, stuffing or preparing in smaller portions.

Also called mini aubergines or brinjal, they are offered in 2kg loose boxes or 6 × 200g prepacked cases. The supplied loose-box quality specification covers round violet and/or purple-striped varieties; other colour mixes require separate agreement.

Taste & texture

Delicate Flavour. Tender Flesh.

Baby Aubergines have a delicate, subtly sweet flavour that works well with spices, herbs and sauces.

The cream-coloured flesh softens during cooking and readily absorbs flavour. Sound produce should not have woody or fibrous flesh or overdeveloped seeds.

From preparation to plate

One vegetable. Plenty of possibilities.

Versatile in Asian, Indian and Mediterranean cooking, Baby Aubergines are suitable for curries, stuffing, roasting, grilling, stir-fries and braised dishes.

Wash before use. Trim as needed and cook whole or cut to suit the dish; handle carefully to avoid bruising.
