The Fresh Produce Grower Representation Model

How we manage your full UK commercial presence including sales, quality, communication and reporting for a fixed 8% commission

Grower representation is our flagship model. A grower nominates Produce Market to represent them exclusively in the UK market. We handle everything on their behalf. The grower retains full ownership of their product throughout. Here is exactly what that means in practice.

What we do as your UK representative

The full scope of Produce Market representation

Taking on the representation of a grower in the UK market means taking on a significant and wide-ranging commercial responsibility. The scope of what we do on a represented grower's behalf covers every aspect of their UK commercial operation — from the first conversation with a potential buyer through to the final quality report on a delivered shipment.

We manage the entire UK sales process — identifying suitable buyers, presenting product, negotiating pricing within agreed parameters, confirming orders and managing the commercial relationship on an ongoing basis. We handle every buyer query, every pricing discussion and every supply conversation so that the grower can focus on what they do best — growing and packing quality produce to a consistent standard.

Beyond sales, we take an active role in quality management. Every shipment we handle is assessed, reported on and communicated clearly to both the grower and the buyer. If there is a quality issue we do not hide it — we report it fully, honestly and promptly, giving the grower the information they need to address it at origin and giving the buyer the transparency they need to manage it at their end.

We also provide ongoing market intelligence — keeping represented growers informed about UK market conditions, buyer feedback, pricing trends and competitive developments that are relevant to their product and their position in the market.

We Manage UK Market Success For You!

Streamline Your Sales

Sales Management

We manage the full UK sales process on behalf of every grower we represent. That means identifying the right buyers for your product, presenting it correctly, negotiating within agreed pricing parameters and managing the ongoing commercial relationship. You do not need to chase buyers, handle pricing conversations or manage client communication — we do all of that on your behalf, consistently and professionally.

Quality Oversight

We take an active role in quality management across every shipment. When product arrives in the UK we assess it against the agreed specification, report back to you with a full and honest account of its condition and work with the buyer to manage any issues that arise. Quality reporting is transparent — you will always know exactly how your product is performing in the UK market and where improvements can be made.

Communication

Every buyer query, pricing discussion and supply conversation is handled by us on your behalf. UK buyers expect prompt, professional and commercially informed responses — and that is exactly what they get. You do not need to be available across different time zones or navigate the complexities of UK buyer communication. We manage that relationship completely, keeping you informed of anything that requires your input or decision.

Market Reporting

We provide regular, structured reporting on your UK commercial performance — covering sales volumes, pricing achieved, buyer feedback, market conditions and any issues or opportunities that are relevant to your product. You will always have a clear, accurate picture of how your product is performing in the UK market and what is driving the results you are seeing.

THE COMMISSION MODEL

How the 8% representation commission works

Our representation commission is fixed at 8% of the sale value of every shipment we sell on your behalf. It is a single, transparent fee that covers the full scope of our representation service — there are no hidden charges, no additional fees and no costs layered on top of the headline rate.

The 8% commission covers everything we do as your UK representative — sales management, buyer relationship development, client communication, quality oversight, shipment reporting, issue resolution and ongoing market intelligence. It is calculated on the net sale value of product sold and is deducted from the payment we pass back to you following each completed sale.

We believe in complete transparency on commercial terms. Before we begin representing any grower we agree the commission structure clearly in writing, along with the pricing parameters we will work within, the reporting frequency and format and the commercial terms that govern the relationship. There are no surprises once the relationship is underway.

The 8% rate reflects the genuine breadth and depth of the service we provide. A grower attempting to replicate this level of UK commercial presence independently — through a combination of sales agents, market visits, logistics management and buyer relationship development — would incur significantly more than 8% in time, cost and resource. Representation through Produce Market gives you a complete, professional UK commercial operation at a fixed, predictable cost.

Growers Retain Ownership

Throughout the entire representation arrangement, growers retain full ownership of their product. We manage the commercial process on your behalf but the product is yours until it is sold. This means you retain control over pricing decisions, supply volumes and the commercial terms under which your product is sold. Our role is to manage and execute within the parameters you set — not to take ownership of your product or your commercial decisions.

Retain Pricing Input

We work within pricing parameters agreed with the grower at the outset of each supply period. We do not make unilateral pricing decisions — if a buyer requests a price that falls outside the agreed range we come back to the grower before proceeding. This gives growers confidence that their product is always being sold within commercially acceptable terms and that their pricing position in the UK market is being managed in their interests.

Retain Supply Control

Represented growers retain full control over the volumes they supply, the timing of shipments and the specification of product they send. We advise on market demand, timing and specification based on our knowledge of UK buyer requirements — but the supply decisions are always made by the grower. Our role is to ensure that what you send is correctly positioned, properly sold and professionally managed once it arrives in the UK.

THE REPRESENTATION JOURNEY

What the representation process looks like in practice

Becoming a represented grower with Produce Market is a structured process designed to ensure that the relationship starts on the right foundations and develops in a way that works commercially for both sides. Here is what the journey typically looks like from first contact through to established UK supply.

Initial Conversation

The process begins with a straightforward conversation about your product, your growing operation, your export capability and your commercial objectives in the UK market. We want to understand what you grow, what volumes you can supply consistently, what certifications you hold and what you are looking to achieve through UK market representation. This initial conversation is exploratory — there is no commitment on either side at this stage.

Assessment and Fit

If the initial conversation suggests a good fit we move into a more detailed assessment of your operation. This covers quality standards, certification, packaging, export logistics capability and your capacity to supply the UK market consistently over time. We are selective about the growers we represent — not because we are difficult to work with, but because our reputation with UK buyers depends on the quality and consistency of the product we bring to market. We only represent growers we are genuinely confident in.

Commercial Terms and Onboarding

Once we are satisfied that there is a strong commercial fit we agree the terms of the representation arrangement — commission rate, pricing parameters, reporting structure, communication protocols and the practical details of how the relationship will work day to day. Onboarding is straightforward and we manage the process to minimise the administrative burden on the grower.

First Supply and Market Introduction

The first shipment is a critical moment in any new supply relationship. We manage the introduction of your product to UK buyers carefully — positioning it correctly, managing buyer expectations and ensuring that the first supply experience sets the right tone for the ongoing relationship. We report back to you fully on the outcome of the first supply, including buyer feedback, quality assessment and any commercial observations that are relevant to future shipments.

Ongoing Relationship

Once the relationship is established we move into ongoing representation — managing your UK sales, buyer relationships, quality oversight and market reporting on a continuous basis. We review the relationship regularly, share market intelligence proactively and work with you to develop your UK presence over time.

Built on Real Experience Across the Supply Chain

How We Operate

Working with Produce Market gives UK buyers a clearer and more reliable way to source fresh produce.

Rather than dealing with inconsistent supply or limited visibility, buyers know where their product comes from, how it has been handled and who is responsible for managing the supply. That level of clarity builds confidence and supports more dependable buying relationships over time.

What Buyers Get

Buyers get a level of accountability and transparency that is simply not available through standard trading relationships. They know where the product comes from, who grew it, what standard it was packed to and that there is a professional, accountable representative managing the supply on the grower's behalf. That transparency builds confidence and makes the buying relationship more reliable over time.

Consistent Quality

Represented growers are assessed against clear quality and certification standards before we agree to represent them. UK buyers can therefore have confidence that product sourced through our representation model meets a consistent standard — not because we are making promises we cannot keep, but because we have done the work at the grower end to ensure the standard is there before product reaches the UK market.

Clear Communication

Every represented grower relationship comes with clear, structured communication — for buyers as well as growers. Buyers know who to contact, what to expect in terms of response times and how quality or supply issues will be handled. That clarity removes friction from the buying relationship and makes it easier to plan and trade with confidence.

Long-Term Reliability

The representation model is designed for long-term supply relationships, not one-off transactions. For UK buyers that means access to a consistent, reliable source of product that has been properly developed and managed from origin — rather than a supply that appears when it suits the trader and disappears when something better comes along.

The case for structured representation

Why representation produces better outcomes than standard trading

The fresh produce industry has operated on a trading model for generations — buyers and sellers transacting at arm's length, with limited transparency, limited accountability and limited long-term commitment on either side. That model works after a fashion but it produces outcomes that consistently fall short of what both growers and buyers actually need.

Growers need market access that is structured, reliable and commercially fair. They need to know their product is being sold professionally, that they are receiving honest reporting on its performance and that their interests are being protected in a market they are not physically present in. Standard trading does not provide any of that — it provides a transaction, and nothing more.

Buyers need supply that is consistent, quality-assured and commercially transparent. They need to know where their product comes from, that the people managing the supply chain are accountable for its quality and that when something goes wrong there is someone who will deal with it honestly rather than deflecting responsibility. Standard trading does not provide that either.

Representation aligns the interests of growers and buyers around the same objective - consistent, quality supply at commercially fair prices and it places a professional, accountable partner in the middle to make that objective a reality. That is what Produce Market does, every day, for every grower we represent and every buyer we supply.

Grower Representation Model FAQs

Everything international growers need to know about the Produce Market representation model including how it works, what the 8% commission covers, what growers retain and what the onboarding process looks like.

  • What does it mean for a grower to be represented by Produce Market?

It means we manage the full scope of your UK commercial presence on your behalf — sales, buyer relationships, client communication, quality oversight and market reporting. You retain ownership of your product and control over pricing and supply decisions. We handle everything else, operating as your dedicated UK commercial partner in exchange for a fixed 8% commission on sales.

    How We Work
  • Why is the commission fixed at 8%?

The 8% rate reflects the genuine breadth of the service we provide — covering sales management, buyer development, client communication, quality oversight, shipment reporting and ongoing market intelligence. It is a single transparent fee with no hidden costs. A grower building equivalent UK market presence independently would incur significantly more in time, cost and resource.

    Get in Touch
  • Do growers retain ownership of their product under the representation model?

Yes, completely. Growers retain full ownership of their product throughout the representation arrangement. Product is yours until it is sold. We manage the commercial process on your behalf but we never take ownership of your product or make commercial decisions outside the parameters you have agreed with us.

    How We Work
  • How are pricing decisions made under representation?

We work within pricing parameters agreed with the grower at the outset of each supply period. We do not make unilateral pricing decisions — if a buyer requests a price outside the agreed range we come back to you before proceeding. Your pricing position in the UK market is always managed in your interests.

    Get in Touch
  • What happens if there is a quality issue with a shipment?

We assess the shipment fully, report back to you with a complete and honest account of what has happened and work with the buyer to manage the situation. Quality reporting under the representation model is fully transparent — you will always know exactly what condition your product arrived in and how any issues have been handled.

    Logistics & Supply Chain
  • How long does the onboarding process take?

The timeline varies depending on your certification status, export readiness and the complexity of your operation. In straightforward cases onboarding can be completed within a few weeks. We manage the process to minimise the administrative burden on the grower and keep things moving as efficiently as possible.

    Become a Supplier
  • Can I supply the UK market through other channels while being represented by Produce Market?

This depends on the terms of the representation arrangement and is something we discuss clearly at the outset. In most cases representation is structured as an exclusive UK arrangement to protect the integrity of the pricing and relationships we develop on your behalf. We are happy to discuss the specifics of your situation during the initial conversation.

    Get in Touch
  • Is representation suitable for smaller growers or only large operations?

Representation is suitable for growers of varying sizes provided they can supply consistent quality in commercially viable volumes. We are more interested in consistency, certification and operational discipline than in raw size. If you are a smaller grower with strong standards and genuine export capability we would welcome a conversation
