What Is Baby Fennel?

Baby Fennel is a young, slender form of fennel with pale green to white bulbs attached to trimmed, elongated green stalks. The bulb can be gently curved or slightly rounded depending on growing conditions. It is aromatic, crisp and well suited to whole-vegetable presentation.

The specification sets a length of 150–200mm including stalk (±5mm) and a bulb-base diameter of 30–45mm (±2mm), subject to sizing tolerances. Each saleable pack contains at least 200g net, with six prepacked units per outer case.

Taste & texture

Sweet Aniseed Notes. Crisp, Fresh Texture.

A fresh aromatic anise fragrance accompanies a sweet, liquorice-like flavour with gentle spicy, vegetal and citrus nuances.

The smooth firm bulb and slender green stalks have a crunchy, juicy consistency when raw; cooking softens the fibres and mellows the flavour.

From preparation to plate

One vegetable. Plenty of possibilities.

Distinctive young fennel for catering menus, premium vegetable selections and wholesale produce ranges.

Wash before use and trim the stalks or bulb base as required. Slice thinly for raw dishes, or roast, grill, braise or sauté whole or halved baby fennel.
